Leak detection & repair.
Know what to ask.

Describe the visible evidence: dripping, a damp surface, water-meter concern or staining that appears after a fixture is used. Note when it began and whether it is spreading. The location of visible damage does not necessarily identify the pipe or connection that caused it.

During the assessment

Ask how the plumber will narrow the source and which surfaces may need access. Share photographs and any pattern related to appliance or fixture use. Do not open walls or approach wet electrical equipment to investigate; agree on safe professional access and authorization.

Compare the complete scope

A useful proposal distinguishes finding the source, repairing the plumbing and restoring the building. Ask whether a temporary measure, further testing or follow-up visit is expected. Clarify cleanup and finish-repair responsibilities before the scope expands.

Have these details ready

  • Where moisture or dripping first appeared
  • When it occurs and whether it is spreading
  • Fixtures or appliances used beforehand
  • Safe access and property authorization

Does a stain identify the leaking pipe?

A stain shows where moisture became visible, which may differ from its source. Share timing and fixture-use patterns with the plumber. Ask how the investigation will narrow the cause and what access is needed before approving wall or ceiling openings.
